An interactive web-based app
The Department developed a web-based app for MSC’s Explora Journeys I and II, providing passengers with a seamless, user-friendly digital experience throughout their voyage. The app has enhanced the guest experience by offering interactive puzzles, song requests and a fully immersive murder mystery experience “Murder on the Ocean Serenity”, resulting in increased engagement from passengers.
Building on its initial success, we continued to introduce additional features, including multiple language options, an interactive gamified photo gallery, new chapters of the murder mystery and augmented reality elements to elevate the existing storyline and user experience. This web-based app was an innovative way to blend technology with exploration of both the ship and the destinations, making every day onboard Explora Journeys even more memorable.
Immersive murder mystery experience
Murder on the Ocean Serenity is an interactive and immersive murder mystery designed to run on demand through the app. Inviting curious passengers to help Detective Maxwell Stone uncover the mystery of Vivian Valentina’s murder by carefully examining audio recordings and evidence documents. This experience has been specifically designed to work with the Explorer cruise ship’s itinerary, with new batches of evidence from the detective being unlocked throughout days 1, 3, and 5 of the cruise.
Interactive gamified photo gallery
An interactive gamified photo gallery was later added that allows guests to showcase their photography skills while engaging with the onboard community. Each day, the app presents a unique travel-inspired theme, inviting guests to submit their best travel photos captured during their journey. Once the photos are submitted and guests can browse through the entries in the gallery. The interactive element comes into play as passengers vote for their favourite photo, adding a layer of friendly competition and social interaction.
